Sitka Community Hospital Employees Association

This informal organization was originally set up to avoid "passing the hat" every time a co-worker was being presented a gift, and to make the system more equitable. In addition, the SCHEA sponsors a holiday party and a summer picnic.

The Association is funded primarily through voluntary deductions to employees' paychecks ($2 per pay period) and sales from one of the pop machines. The group also holds various fund-raisers throughout the year, including silent auctions, bake sales and garage sales.

Employees are given cards and flowers when hospitalized or on extended sick leave. A gift is presented to departing employees, and the SCHEA sponsors an "Employee of the Month" program.

All hospital employees are automatically members and enjoy these benefits, whether they contribute the voluntary dues to the SCHEA or not.
